Has undertaken comprehensive market research related to the livestock industry in Malaysia, which concluded that there is a severe lack of supply of fresh mutton/goat meat in the country, given that 92 percent of the mutton/goat meat demand relies on imports. This has not only resulted in relatively high cost of mutton/goat meat, but, as most of the imports are in frozen form, very little ‘fresh’ products are being offered.

It should also be mentioned that the Government has expressed serious concern over the lack of self-sufficiency not only in mutton/goat meat, but also in a number of other staple food items, such as beef, dairy, fish, vegetables and rice. The Government is now pursuing a policy to achieve National Food Security and EmFarm expects to make a significant contribution in this area.
